Razer Blade 15 Base Gaming Laptop Review
Razer's Blade 15 base isn't necessarily broken, but it could use a tune-up anyway. It's the epitome of the company's excellent design chops—making it stuck in the loop of flexing practically the same as last year and years ago.
The laptop's all-aluminum build is still impressive to look at and use. And yes, it has a webcam, unlike some gaming laptops we've reviewed recently. But the effect it delivers is getting old, and Razer still hasn't addressed all the troubles that have existed since the design debut in 2018. It's a magnet for fingerprints and smudges, and for a laptop that starts at $1,699.99, its lack of any biometric login method is shocking. You will need to type in your password or PIN each time you log in.
It is no longer ahead of the pack in terms of design as one might expect from Razer. Some competing machines, such as the Asus Zephyrus G15 and MSI GS66 Stealth, are thin, light, and aggressively priced to rival the Blade, which has similar (or more) features. 2021 could be the year other manufacturers catch up to it or overtake it.
